Victor Daniel Baker was born on 7th April 1890 at 210 Stockbrook Street in Derby.
His parents were Bruce Baker b. 1859 from Serrat in Hampshire, who worked as a 'colliery banksman'.
His mother was Emma Adams b. 1858 in Chesham, Bucks. She was a cook in London.
Victor Daniel was the eldest of 5 children.
He had three brothers William, Roland and Reginald and a sister Elsie.
Roland 'Role' used to visit the family in Kings Newton every year or so but not a lot is known about the rest ofVictor's family.
He worked for most of his life as a farm labourer - he worked at Morley's farm in Kings Newton.
Being poorly paid as a gardener for a local vicar he went on a £10 ticket to Australia, in January 1910. He arrived back in England on 26th April 1915. Ethel May waited for him during this time and they married in October of 1915. At first they lived at Morley Hayes - the farm where Ethel May's parents farmed. Then they moved to Kings Newton around 1920-23 presumably for Victor's job at Morley's farm nearby.
The family then eventually moved to 82 Derby Road, Melbourne (opposite the Legion Club) on 17th April 1941.
Victor Daniel was killed in a tragic cycle accident at the bottom of Packhorse Road on 4th June 1947.
